Exercising and Physical Activity

A good general rule is 300 more calories burned and 300 calories less eaten. Pretty much any type of movement of physical activity is good. Generally, the recommended amount of exercise is 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. If necessary, these 30 minutes can be broken up into shorter time intervals (a minimum of 10 minutes each). Prior to beginning any exercise routine, all patients should consult with their physicians to ensure the routine is appropriate. Obese patients, or those with chronic conditions, should work with their physician on appropriate types, intensity levels and length of times for exercising. If the patient has been inactive for an extended period of time, then they should slowly work up to their physician's recommendations.

Keeping a journal of eating habits and exercises is a very useful method for ensuring patients are successful in losing weight.
